Cleveland… Temper Us in Fire and We Grow Stronger!

This is a Don’t Panic! mural that I painted with Bob Peck recently.  We painted this with the intention of reminding our friends, family, and ourselves that we are Cleveland Strong.  Never forget that! I know we’ve all been a bit restless and at unease with things.  The best thing that we can do is to be positive and press on.  We need to keep making art, keep moving around, and keep smiling.  (I’m an optimist, which just might be my Achilles heal)  I always find myself seeing the silver lining in every situation, and that’s how I feel about this mural.  A Phoenix, bursting in to flames sharing it’s light with the world.  I’m filled with endless ideas and opinions, and as an artist I need to share them.

How did this mural, like all of our projects, begin?  Bob called me and said, “I have an idea!”, and I said, “I’m in!”.  We tend to understand the idea before it’s explained or  shared with each other.  That makes planning and execution roll out very smoothly.  We just connect with style, motivation, and drive.

This mural is about 10 ft tall and 25 ft wide.  It’s probably the largest one we have done to date.  The Phoenix is about 8ft tall and 6 ft wide.  I hand cut all of my stencils.  Often people think they are cut with a plotter.  But that’s not the case.  I use poster board and tape them together for size pending the project. Then it’s just me and an X-acto knife for a few hours.

As always, we have more projects in motion.  I hope you like this mural and you share it, where it needs shared.  I can’t wait to see you all in person, but until then keep up with us virtually.
